Full Name: Lavender Deirdre Brown Nominal Significance: Lavender is an aromatic flower or the pale purple colour. Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation. Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday's color is purple.
Her middle name is the stand out. Deirdre is perhaps the one with the strongest history. Deirdre was the most beautiful woman in ancient Ireland. She was bethrothed to the High King Conchobhar Mac Nessa but she fell in love with his nephew Naoise. Deirdre and Naoise eloped to Scotland where they lived a blissful exile for many years. By offering forgiveness, Conchobhar tricked them into returning to Ulster where Naoise was slain by the jealous Conchobhar. Deirdre threw herself from Conchobhar's chariot rather than live with the man who had caused Naoise's death. It was said that her grave was near to Naoise's and that a yew tree grew from each plot. The yew trees grew toward one another till their branches intertwined, joining the two lovers even after death.
Her last name is also a colour symbolic name. Brown can mix into many surroundings. It is a mixture of red, blue and yellow and has many shades and tones - each producing a different effect. Brown can be a stabilizing color. The red in brown gives it practical energy while the yellow and blue add mental focus energies. Too much brown can make a dull effect. Brown gives a feeling of solidity, and allows one to stay in the background, unnoticed. Some shades of brown create a warm, comfortable feeling of wholesomeness, naturalness and dependability. The Scottish Clan Brown or Broun uses the motto Floreat Majestas which translates as "Let majesty flourish".
Her last name is recorded in many spellings from Brown, Broune, and De Bruyn, to Brauner, Bruni and Brunet, this ancient and prolific surname derives, from a pre 7th century Germanic and Anglo-Saxon word "brun" or the Olde Norse personal name "Bruni". Originally this name would probably have been a nationlistic or tribal nickname for a person with a brown complexion or hair, although it may also have referred to someone who habitually wore brown clothing, such as a monk or cleric. The baptismal name as Brun or the latinized Brunus, was a popular name in the period upto the introduction of surnames in the 12th century, see below. Irish name holders derive from 12th century Norman sources. In the west the Browne's are the descendants of a knight called " Hugo le Brun", amd form one of the ancient "Tribes of Galway", as recorded in the "Annals of the nine kings". The Browne's of Killarney form a separate branch and are descended from a later Elizabethan settler. Amongst the early surname recordings are those of Hugh Bron of Stafford, England, in the year 1274, and Hugo Brun of Erfurt, Germany, in 1407. Christopher Browne is recorded as being one of the very first settlers in the new American colonies. In the very first listing of the colonists of New England he is shown to be "living in Virginea, on February 16th 1623".The first recorded spelling of the family name anywhere in the world is probably that of William le Brun, which was dated 1169, in the Pipe Rolls of the county of Northumberland, England. This was during the reign of King Henry 11, known as "The church builder", 1154 - 1189. Nicknames: Most people just call her Lavender but her close friends sometimes know her shorten her name of Lav or Lavvie. As an adult, it’s rather difficult getting used to being called Ms. Brown. There are a few people that call her Brown but that isn’t the most popular of her nicknames. The people that call her that are people that she isn’t really friends with. Age/Birthday: 18 | December 3rd, 1979 Sign: Sagittarius
Gryffindors born under this sign are exuberant and full of good humour. They are intelligent, but often do not make the best of students, because they would rather be outside enjoying the fresh air or off studying on their own. They aren't good at diplomatic silence; if a teacher makes a mistake, the Gryffindor Sag will draw attention to it right away, usually loudly and in front of the entire class. At length. These students can get into trouble - their hot tempers make for easy dueling matches, and their impish senses of humour inspire a great many practical jokes. Still, they rarely mean anything malicious. They're too jovial to harbour malice. These Gryffindors are likeable extraverts, on good terms with practically everybody, and they generally do all right in the end. Many excellent Quidditch players come from this sign.
Loyalty: Light affiliate | Dumbledore's Army Member Marital Status: Single Bloodline: Pureblood. In 2001, Rowling flashed a notebook during a BBC interview that showed her notes on the students in Harry Potter's year and Lavender is noted as being a Pureblood in Gryffindor House. While it is never written in the books that she is I’m going with this as fact.
Sexuality: Heterosexual Current Location: House/Year Graduated: Gryffindor | 1998 Occupation: Student Wand: 11 1/2 willow with veela hair Boggart: Lavender is terrified of being bitten by a vampire. Her boggart would turn into a handsome, charming person that would quickly turn on a dime and bite her. On base value, the fear is based on a simple fear of vampires but beyond that she's afraid of her choices coming back to bite her in the bum. Patronus: Her Patronus is a Hummingbird. Hummingbirds represents the joy of living and brings with it the ability to see beauty in everything. Amortenia Smells: lemon, harbour breeze, acid rain, leather, new shoes, fresh baked bread, grilling hamburger, soap and cloves. Noteworthy: None.
Appearance:
Lavender has a small heart-shaped face with a creamy skin tone. She nearly always is weary makeup and has style to her hair. She always tries to be trendy and dress in cute clothes. She's the sort of girl that would workout in heels if she actually knew what a workout was. If there is a way to make something signature Lavender, she does it. She has bright, friendly bluish-green eyes and blonde hair. She never wears it the same way twice because that would be boring. She in nearly never seen without her tarot card deck or makeup. She keeps her tarot deck when she's at work in her pocket just in case anyone happens to need some assistance in that way.
Played By: Sara Paxton
Personality: Lavender is an icon of the girly girl personality. If and when she is in the right time and place (and sometimes when she's not) she giggles, squeals, and gossips louder than she should. Her personal opinion is why should you do anything quietly when you can do it better. She has a reputation for being a bit of a flirt and a tease. She doesn't want just one bloke. She'd rather sell her right arm than settle. Through her years at Hogwarts, she has moved from guy to guy lingering no where for too long. She is a bit attention deficit when it comes to members of the opposite sex. She doesn't like for things to be boring. She's in constant need of change and excitement. She thrives off it really. The only long term boyfriend was Ron Weasley.
Lavender has friends in every house but no one tops Parvati who is her best friend by far. Lavender's favourite subject is Divination, and she can often be seen shuffling her deck of tarot cards almost on habit. She wanted to become a professional tarot card reader but then she found out how much they get paid and she decided against that. She is greatly superstitious, almost to a silly extent. She also has a horrible addiction to gossiping which usually ends in her hurting others feelings. She feels bad most of the time when her gossiping does end up hurting people but she can't resist sharing the interesting tidbits that people tell her. She's a bit of a blabbermouth and perhaps the last person in the universe you'd want to trust with a second. She's only managed to keep a few secrets sacred over the years and those belong to Seamus, Parvati and Dean.
When it comes to homework, she hates to do it and often puts it off to the last minute bugging her housemates to help her. Sometimes, if the situation called for it she even goes as far as bribing Ravenclaw Boys who lack social skills ( with snogging ) to get them to "help her". She does get upset when her grades aren't up to par but she never really worries about it. She knew everything would come together eventually.
Overall, she's very positive and hardly ever gets down. She tends to think highly of herself. Sometimes she thinks too highly of herself which makes people think that's all she thinks about. She's a big contradiction in many senses though. She loves herself but she does care about other people. She's got a lot of friends but she's very particular about those she keeps closest to her. She holds grudges to those who hurt her or her friends. She's not afraid to try anything once, as long as it doesn't get her icky or ruin a new Gladrags outfit. She doesn't like dark and scary animals but she'll be the first girl to be happy over the sight of something cute and fluffy. She hasn't had a pet since Binky (her rabbit) died years ago.
Three positive personality traits: - Loyal - Enthusiastic - Positive
William Brown : August 6, 1952 | Pureblood | When he was younger, he was a Gryffindor at Hogwarts. He loves his boys but Lavender is the apple of his eye. She has his wrapped around her finger and she knows it. When her brothers would rough house with her when they were children, she'd go and cry to him. This normally resulted in her brother's getting scolded and her getting candy or a new toy. She is a bit spoiled by him. She appreciates everything he does for her though. He works at an office near their home doing accounting for wizards. He handles handles the finances of many Pureblooded families and is respected for his ability to keep his mouth shut. He does not support what some of them are doing at all though.
Sienna Brown : June 9, 1953 | Pureblood | When she was younger, she attended Hogwarts and was a Ravenclaw. She is a homemaker. She does not work and never has. Lavender has gotten her good looks from her mother. That isn't the only thing she's gotten from her. Her mother has taught her a thing or two about sewing. She can't knit for squat but she can sew and do patches. She has also taught Lavender how to cook (though Lavender doesn't enjoy doing it all that much). When she was younger, Lavender would tell her mother pretty much anything but she's gotten more and more distant with age.
Lachlan Brown : November 9, 1973 | Pureblood | Being the eldest, he likes watching out for everyone else. Unfortunately this has earned him the title of 'Over-Bearing, obnoxious Older Brother' from Lavender on more than a hand full of occasions. When he was in school as a Gryffindor, he let his opinions be known when he saw the types his sister was hanging around. He isn't a big fan of the fact she's a bit of a gossip or the fact she might be a little too interested in the opposite sex. He's generally good-intentioned though and she knows that deep down. He wants her to be happy and she loves him. He's still the brother she fights with the most. He is currently unemployed. He's always changing jobs though.
Ian Brown : April 6, 1974 | Pureblood | He was a sixth year Ravenclaw when Lavender came to Hogwarts. He is known as the sensible older brother. When he left school he moved in with Lachlan and the two are living it up as bachelors. He has always been the brother that she can trust to go to about anything. He's probably the smartest of the bunch. She blames him for her secret infatuation with slightly geeky boys. Lavender doesn't want to marry someone like dad, she wants someone who is amazing as her brothers. Ian is hopeless when it comes to women so she gives him advice about how to score with them. He is currently employed by the Magical Museum of London as an exhibit designer.
Boyd Brown : October 11, 1981 |Pureblood | He is her baby brother and she protects him with all her might. He's currently a Gryffindor. His best friend was Dennis Creevey and she knows he feels a touch down because neither of the Creevey boys are around due to their bloodlines. He's perhaps the more sensitive of the Brown boys. She is pretty sure when he grows up he's going to be a Healer because he likes fixing things. She owls him frequently to make sure that he is okay.
History: Lavender was born in Aberdour in Fife, Scotland. The origins of the village lie with its harbour, where the Dour Burn enters the River Forth. The place-name itself is Pictish, implying an origin in the Dark Ages: aber 'confluence'. The -dour element, referring to the Burn, means simply 'water', and is unconnected to the Scots/English 'dour'. For much of its history Aberdour was two villages, Wester Aberdour and Easter Aberdour, on either side of the Dour Burn. Although this distinction was blurred by the 19th century arrival of the railway, it is still visible today. While Lavender’s family has always been rather affluent and has a long line of witches and wizards from both sides, they have always enjoyed living amongst the Muggles.
Growing up Lavender enjoyed playing with her two elder brothers and then younger brother along the waterside. While her family could have afforded larger and much more posh places to lives they shared a cozy waterside home. She did have more luck than her brothers in finding privacy though. While they shared a room, she had her own. There were perks to being the only girl in the family. She and her siblings were always close. They might rough house with each other and they might pick on her on occasion but they were always the first to jump in to defend her if the situation merited it. Lavender was heartbroken when her elder brothers escaped one year after another to Hogwarts. Lachlan and Ian were in sixth and seventh year respectively by the time she finally made it in. Boyd followed the year after her.
She started in 1980 and was placed into Gryffindor. She sought quickly to distinguish herself not as a another Brown entering the school but as her own person. Lavender quickly found friendship in Parvati Patil, Seamus Finnigan, and Dean Thomas within her house. She did, however, took no time making other friends outside of her house. She established herself as a center head at discriminatory fashion judgment and gossip sharing within the school. While her brothers did let their opinions known on their adorable, kid sister turning into a gossipy little monster, they gave her own space to make her decisions.
In her third year, she fell in love with Divination in Professor Trelawney's class. While many were skeptics she learned to believe what Trelawney would say. The reason for this is that Lavender learns of the death of her pet rabbit, Binky, after Professor Trelawney said that the thing she was dreading would happen and Lavender had been dreading that her pet rabbit would die. Binky was killed by a fox and she got the news on the day Trewlawney's prediction has suggested. Hermione Granger, however, pointed out that Lavender only learned of Binky's death on the sixteenth of October and that it didn't really occur on that day, plus the fact that because the news had been very much a shock, she couldn't have been dreading it. Lavender would have lied to argue otherwise.
In her fourth year, she attended the Yule Ball with Seamus Finnigan. While it could be said, she's certainly thought about being more than friends with him she would never be the one to initiate it and she's usually distracted by other boys. During the Ministry's smear campaign against Harry Potter, Lavender initially believed it, but later joined Dumbledore's Army in her fifth year thus showing that she'd gotten over any animosity she might have had in her fourth year.
In her sixth year, she got it in her head that she had a crush on Ron Weasley. She put her head to it and kept going at it until he took the time to notice. A part of her always knew that he liked Hermione but she got it in her head that she could make him like her more. The two had a mostly physical relationship which consisted in snogging all over Hogwarts. They had nothing in common at the base of things and that is ultimately what caused it to fall apart. Lavender, however, to this day will insist that it is Ron’s fault for not appreciating what he had that caused them to fall apart. She doesn’t hate him or Hermione but sometimes it still hurts. He was her first real boyfriend after all.
She helped protect younger years when Death Eaters attacked Hogwarts in her sixth year and Albus Dumbledore was killed. She sobbed for weeks after it ended and was even more upset when Parvati and Padma’s parents didn’t want to let them come back. Every day the situation looks bleaker though. She's not even sure if she wants to go back to Hogwarts.
